Monday, September 20, 2021, vote for Dr. Mel.
Now is the time to start building better.
Dr. Melanie Hoffman (she/her) lives in amiskwacî wâskahikan (Edmonton) with her husband Sean, daughter Ophelia, dog Rigby, and cat Sadie. Melanie enjoys hosting Truth & Reconciliation settler circles and community futures conversations. She tends an edible front yard, and volunteers locally as Climate Reality Alberta Lead Mentor. Melanie seeks to leave the world more life-giving, and collaboratively kickstarted the Drawdown Alberta movement focused on reconciliation and community climate solutions.
Melanie is Program Manager for Edmonton-area EcoSchools with the Alberta Council for Environmental Education. As a PhD chemist, she served learners in liberal arts schools such as Quest University Canada in Squamish, B.C. Directing community climate solutions engagement projects with Edmonton’s King’s Centre for Visualization in Science strengthened her conviction that together, we are stronger and for others, our work is better.
Born and raised in the German Rhineland in a tight-knit community, Melanie loves a good laugh and values her neighbours, the land, respect for what is local, and curiosity for what lies beyond. She appreciated her government-funded higher education, and strong community-based family support for her immigrant single mother in Germany. Her daughter thrives thanks to the loving medical expertise in Alberta, reinforcing her passion for accessible, well-supported health care.
